Adopting SiLA drivers into a Lab-of-the-Future digital network – Deft Mobile Temperature Probe

The mobile temperature probe was initially developed as a production application for a client within the food and beverage industry for on-site testing at point-of-need (mobile) for monitoring temperature sensitive steps and ingredient additions during the production of foodstuffs. The wireless temperature probe digitally records the temperature of the experiment/process and automatically uploads this data into LIMS without the need for any cables directly to Applied Scientific’s Deft box.

Automated Capping and De-Capping Solutions

Automated capping and de-capping of containers is a critical process for many lab environments to ensure sample integrity. The team at Applied Scientific Technologies (AST) have recently developed a capping and de-capping solution that can automate an entire process, eliminating mistakes and a manual process that can be time consuming, tedious and capable of causing repetitive motion injuries.

Adopting Standardisation in Lab Automation (SiLA) into a Lab-of-the-Future digital network - OCR Imagery Device

In some instances, direct data acquisition from common lab equipment is not possible, such as this thermomixer widely used in R&D in many consumer food and beverage formulation labs. To solve this issue, AST have set up a raspberry pi and camera module along with a bespoke lab-friendly mounting system to record the device display without hindering usability.

Mettler-Toledo pH Meter - Adopting Lab Automation SiLA drivers into a Lab-of-the-Future digital network

A common SiLA 2 Feature (pH provider) was defined to represent a pH measuring device. Within the Deft Gateway, a S220 control interface of this feature was created. A parser was added to handle messages returned from the pH meter which can account for the varying printout configurations and extract the value and units accordingly and then update the fields (value, units). A pH provider control was then added to the Tablet App which displays the current pH and units received from the Gateway.
